Alternator replacement 2001 V40

Post by anordheim »

How tough is it to replace the alternator on a 2001 V40 by yourself? I've had several power problems lately and the voltage on the battery cables read 11.8v today with the car running. The biggest problems I have suffered as a result of this is a transmission not operating correctly and fading dash lights.
How much would a dealer charge for an alternator replacement?

This is the method according to VADIS.

You must have your radio code before disconnecting the battery (note1).

As for cost - I don't know in the US. Over here I would be going to an auto-electrician and buying an exchange unit. They are re-built and have a 12 month warranty.
