1998 S70T5 Transmission question.

Post by Ozark Lee »

Does anyone know for sure if the 2.4 LPT transmission has the same final gear ratio as the 2.3 liter HPT? I found a couple of transmissions but they are out of S70 GLTs and I need to put it into a T5. I can find dozens of non turbo transmissions cheap but I'm pretty sure they won't work.

Lee. I posed a similar question a few months ago. I was wondering the final gear ratio on a 5 speed vs. automatic. Can't remember who, but someone suggested I look in the owners manual.

I found that one but he lists 0.00:1 for all of the models which I think is a "null" field. On the AW42-50 he only list one set of ratios and I know that the NA transmission is geared differently from the HPT car.

The one that has me real unsure is the LPT. I found one site that lists the final drive ratio for the LPT as being the same as the HPT but it is a European site and so many things are different on the European versions that I am taking it with a grain of salt. I have found a couple of HPT transmissions but the have around 250k miles on them. One of them is local and it is dirt cheap. I suppose I could buy one of the high mileage units and replace the bands and clutch packs but I need to get schooled a bit more on the problem bushing that they all seem to have.

I recall researching this and turbos are different than non-turbos, and manuals, of course, are much higher.
