1998 V70 All electric windows not working

Post by doodles »

Hi there, please could someone help... All the electric windows have stopped working and it's boiling in the UK at the moment!

I have removed the switch assembly from the drivers door and cleaned all the contacts. Have had a look at all the fuse boxes under the bonnet and they all appear to be fine.

The two front switches make a strange buzzing noise when depressed but the back ones make no noise at all... any ideas before I go to the local scrappie to see if he has any.
Also noticed yesterday that electric wing mirrors are not working either.

many thanks Debi

Step one - Is there good power?
Your windows share a common circuit breaker with the moon roof.
Does the moon roof work with the window switch plugged in?
If not, unplug the window switch, wait a few minutes for the
circuit breaker to cool and reset and try the moon roof again.

Step two - If the moon roof operates with the window switch in place,
it's very likely that you'll need a new window master switch.

Thanks for reply, unfortunately I don't have a moon roof....
The electric wing mirrors do work... didn't realise you had to have the main window switch plugged back in!

Is there a fuse for the windows? If so where is it situated? I've checked out the fuses under the bonnet but can't seem to find one that says electric windows.

Appreciate your help.

Step 2 - Get a known good master switch for testing.
The original is probably shorting and causing the auto
resetting circuit breaker to cut power to the windows.
Here's a great place to learn more about this issue:

That circuit breaker is in the main fuse box, but I'd
start with substituting a good window switch first.
