1995 850 sedan fuel pump question

Post by dairyqueen814 »

Hi all
Just got a parts car for 500 bucks and I'm using it for a manual swap. I'd like to test drive it first but the fuel pump is toast. I've jumped the relay etc etc. I know it's the pump.
Does the Ecu sense that the fuel pump is running or does it sense fuel pressure and run everything. If I were to hook up an auxiliary fuel pump would I be able to run the car?
Not looking to have te car road ready or anything I just want to make it run.

Thanks
Nick

The ECU does not participate in this decision. If there is fuel pressure at the rail, the car will run. Assuming other elements are working.

Oh, and you can get a fuel pump for very cheap at the junkyard. Maybe more so than any auxiliary setup, worth looking into. Or just temporarily move over the one from your wagon, they are very easy to get to.

Or Bosch 69693 is about $80, just remove the black casing before install.

I stuck a spare fuel pump off of some old car I had, an old Jeep I think, in a bucket of gas and then ran a fuel line to the fuel rail to get my new XC off of the trailer. I wish I had taken a picture, it was pretty hysterical with the bucket wired up to the hood latch and wires and hoses strung out of the bucket.

If all you want to do is to make sure the engine runs, take a vacuum line off and spray some carb cleaner in there, reconnect the line and crank the engine. The engine will run until it is out of the carb cleaner.
