1998 C70 What's the tube coming through firewall?

Post by NeverTooManyVolvos »

Working on a turbo boost gauge install. Poking around under the dash I saw what looked like a plastic tube (black, somewhere about 1/8" to 3/16" diameter) coming through the firewall and headed upwards towards the combined instrument panel. Does anyone know what it does?

I'm guessing the C70 came "pre-plumbed" for a mechanical turbo boost gauge built into the combined instrument panel, similar to 850s. Just a guess.

It's more than likely the cruise control servo and pedal switch line but I could be wrong; there may well be a line dedicated for a guage.

If it routs to under the battery tray it's the cruise one. If not bingo!!

Try to route it through the hood cable release grommet.

The tube was put there for accessory installs. It will have some factory equipment using it usually.

Cut one of the nipples on either end and route the boost gauge hose through it. Exactly the type use it was put there for.

Jimmy57: It's not the conduit with the unused nipples on it. I saw that one. Was planning on running the boost gauge tube or wiring through there, but seeing the tube that I mentioned in my post was clearly pneumatic, I was curious if Volvo hadn't already done some of my work for me.

Mike: Bingo. Traced down the tube I was looking at and yes, it does go to just under the battery pan.

Will route my boost gauge tube through the conduit with the nipples.

Recently, I replaced the hood cable. For the records, the Tube for accessories is shown below:
