94 850 turbo Engine swap compatability?

Post by pr0t0n29 »

Can I put the engine and transmission from a 98 S70 into my 850? It would also be a switch from automatic to manual transmission.

With enough work, you can put any motor in any car. It would be a lot easier swapping a car that has a matching system like the '94 or '95 models.

If it's a T5 to T5 swap there shouldn't be much. The exhaust manifold will be different because if the EGR and SAS system so you may want to keep your intake and exhaust manifolds. If not, you may want to switch to a '96 or '97 ECU and do the SAS delete.

The manual gear box stuff will not be to bad but you will likely have issues with the ABS, cruise control and speed sensor communication.

I have never tried to hash through that stuff so you may want to do a lot of reading up on it before you dive in.

I think it will be much easier and probably cheaper to simply find a '98 T5M.

Okay. I am getting the parts car regardless, so I'll probably pull everything out of the 98 and look things over first.
