1999 Volvo V70na Fuel coupling part number?

Post by paredown »

Not knowing any better, I pulled apart the fuel line coupling without using the proper tool while doing the PCV.

Mike (Precopster) commented that this was probably a bad idea.

Sure enough, on Saturday I ground to a halt with the smell of gas everywhere--and the line had disconnected. I stuck it back on, and made it home, but would like to buy the connector. I have had trouble finding a schematic that showed the version I have--it is identical to the one pictured in the S70 thread where I admitted my mistake ( ):

Does anyone know the part number for this gas line coupling right at the manifold?

It is kinda hard to make out from the parts diagram but run part number 8627953 by your parts guy and see if that is it.

That is the correct part number for the 1999 n/a--impossible to see on the image of the parts catalog.

It is expensive!

If anyone gets into the same bind, the "delivery pipe" is a relatively easy install. You need to drain the pressure on the fuel rail, and use the disconnect tool to remove the fuel connector from the hard line (use the proper 3/8" tool).

Then remove the snap on cover and the two bolts on holding the fuel rail on. Be super careful and pull the fuel rail out--the injectors will stay in the body, but be careful of crud etc. Flip the rail over, and you will see a plate attached to the back of the rail--three Torx head screws. Remove screws--and I just scissored the plate away from the body and clear of the fuel line connection. Remove old line, install new (press fit). Then scissor the plate back in place, making sure that the plate fits into the locking groves on the fuel line connector.

Replace rail being extra careful with the injectors. Put back the two bolts, tighten. Snap cover back in place.

Then attach fuel line connector to the hard line. It takes a fair bit of pressure, and it must be lined up. Took me a couple of tries, but when it snaps in, you hear a good 'thunk'.

(From the look of the old line, I may not have got it back tight enough to snap in place. I also noticed that the replacement part now has a set of four tabs to lock it in place; the one I took out only had two.)
