Hello to all:
I am a new member to MVS and already have reaped the benefits. My latest adventure has to do with random misfiring. I have 236,000 miles on my s40 and it is plagued with random misfiring upon warm up before reaching normal operating temperature. This seems to be an intermittent problem as the condition sometimes appears to be more prevalent. Immediately this morning it began from a cold start. While my second outing I experienced no misfiring at all. Among the numerous codes, the prevalent ones are: P1014 (No def.), P0507 (Idle air control sys. revolutions higher than expected), P0352(Ignition coil B circuit malfunction),P0171(Bank 1 lean), P0014(Cam position timing over advanced).
The only freeze frame data it gave me was for P0303 with the trims being as follows: ST Firm1(18.8) and LT Firm1 (- 1.6) with a Calc. Load of 29.8 and vehicle speed 39 mph. I replaced the fuel filter and the FPR about 5 days ago and have started replacing the vacuum hoses with new hose. I also replaced the spark plugs about three weeks ago when I replaced my oil pan gasket and installed a new starter motor. Needless to say frustration has started to set in since most of my money and time has been devoted to to improving my beloved Volvo.
My question is where do I look to next to rid myself of this annoying "Limp Mode" that is very unbecoming and regain my cars intended performance?
Thank you all for any consideration.
On standby.

Found this: P1014 Volvo Description
Camshaft Position (CMP) - Crankshaft Position (CKP) signals are not as the Engine Control Module (ECM) is expecting.

At 236K maybe these are worn out? They can cause all kinds of running problems. Might be worth replacing them with new/known good and clean the idle air control valve. Any timing belt change recently?

And thank you so much for the direction rmmagow. So just to be sure start with both position sensors because these two, according to P1014 code could be the sole reason for the poor performance and may be triggering the other codes because of the "running problems?"

The IACV is next to the throttle body and intake; it tends to get sticky with time/mileage and a good cleaning wouldn't harm. Make sure your electrical connectors are snug and clean.saulgar1 wrote:Yes replaced timing belt about 6 months ago. Idle air control valve, how can I identify its location?
Example of Precision: Measure with a Micrometer, mark it with Chalk, and then cut it with an Axe.

Update to IAC AND STARTING PROBLEM. As it turns out I had a loose wire going to my coil, must have tugged it loose when I replaced vacuum hoses. After one full day I slept on it and early the next day found it when I was about to check plugs for spark. Started right up and has been trouble free since cleaning out IAC valve with throttle body cleaner. Thanks a million to all my MVS replies and moderators. Now its on to replacing my struts. Fantastic!
