This is strange to me because (the big joke with my friends/family) EVERY car I owned, whether it was my Jeep Grand Cherokee, Eddie Bauer Explorer or now my Volvo C70 the driver side windows always stop working (power up or down) BUT....this time (this is the strange part to me) my drivers side front window stopped working and my passenger side was fine BUT now a week later (just tonight) I couldn't get my passenger window to go up. I am praying it does not rain. What are the chances of both breaking within a week of each other?
You know, I love Volvo and was so excited to get one even though it was used but only months after purchase, I've had a hose blow, a/c go out, low beam headlight go out and now the windows all within about 6 months after purchase. I'm a little upset because paying almost $10K (after tax and tags) is not cheap for a 10 yr old used car. My 14 yr old $2500 used suv's lasted longer than this.
I understand buyer beware of used cars but really? Anyway, my motive isn't to bash Volvo (I seriously love this car) but I can't afford another $100 diagnosis charge plus repairs at my dealership . I had a feeling picking out a nicer type of car for my Christmas gift would land me over my head as far as repairs but I couldn't resist, The 1 owner really kept this car clean inside and out. I read a couple of things about cleaning the switch (saw directions with photos) but I wanted to ask if maybe it could be a fuse or something since its both sides? My boyfriend has pretty extensive car repair experience but its usually parts like brakes, fans, etc..I never did fix the other cars' windows, I used one of those little rubber door stoppers to keep them in place but I can't do that with my Volvo because the window won't budge. At least with my other used cars, I was able to manually pull it up and push it down

Chances of two independent failures are indeed remote. You probably have a bad window switch in the driver door. Its a common failure. A new switch is about 130 USD, you can get cheaper ones on ebay.

I'd download a wiring diagram from this site and find the power window circuits. There should be fuses for these circuits (dr and pa) that may be blown.

Can you hear the motor engage at all?
In my car (S60) There is plastic clips that break off and make the windows jam, I think it's slightly different for your model but I assume something similar exists. See http://volvospeed.com/volvo_repairs_how ... ement.html .

The window system in a C70 is unlike an S or V70
Besides the window switch(es), there is a control box under the dash

That's a good time to test the motors for proper function while it is apart.
Im a little worried that your top function requires the windows to be operative but I don't know this car that well. A convertible with a top that doesn't work imparts significant negative karmic energy into the universe and must be fixed....especially if it's a standard shift
