06- XC70- Ocean Race- Tires?
06- XC70- Ocean Race- Tires?
So, reading the prior posts, there are opinions about tires. I need 4 !!!! Current are Conti Contacts 215/60- 17. Is this the size to replace them with? Is there a size that will offer better handling, etc.? I plan to use them all seasons... What tire is recommended for this vehicle to obtain handling, smooth ride and durability (it's a large investment for me)? So far I have seen posts to stay clear of Mich., Pirelli...

The size you state is the correct size for the rim. I'm not an expert so I suggest you check with a tire supplier and see if they can advise if you can fit a wider tire to the existing rims.
Where do you live? If you don't get any snow or very little you could get away with all season tires. Everyone has their preferences when it comes to tires. I like Toyo for good all around service and handling. I'm not sure what issues folks have with Pirelli or Michelin. Generally I have had good luck with Michelin, apart from some X-Ice winter tires which were noisy and poorly manufactured. We have Continentals on our car for half the year and other than finding them a little noisy, so far over approx. 10k miles they have done what we needed of them.
Unfortunately by having an AWD you have the curse of having to buy 4 tires every time. Just be happy you don't have 3 AWD Volvos with summer and winter tires needed!!
Try checking Tire Rack for tire options and some owners give reports on the tires. You have to make some assumptions based on the type of drivers they are. It is a good place to start!
Neil.

225/55/17 using Conti DWS tires is an awesome tire and size.
Works great!
To Neil,
You don't need to replace 4 tires with a Haldex car, just two at a time as long as you have 5-6-32" tread difference, not the old 3/32"

I just bought a set of Cooper CS5's... ($70.00 rebate right now)
Only have a little over 1k on them but they seem fine.

I had Pirelli Cinturato and I was pleased with those. Also had Michelin's, as long as it's not the cheapest ones, I really like them for the smooth, comfortable and silent drive. But I can't recommend any of those 4 seasons during the cold season.

Ditto the coopers.
They're sticky and comfortable. Good manners and tight response.
A little noisy at speed but the other characteristics out weigh this for me.
