Upgrading from an 850: 2007 w/ 58k vs. 2009 w/ 92k

Post by wheelsup »

So locally there aren't many later model V70's to choose from.

Thoughts on a 2007 V70 turbo or a 2009 (newer body style)
2007 is priced at 14k the 2009 is priced at 13k, both are private parties

How user friendly are the 2001-2007 V70's to work on? How reliable are they? Are they as nice as the 850's (ie very reliable, easier to work on)?

I like that the same body style was used from 2001-2007, looks like lots of parts available for those years that can be picked up off eBay/yards etc.

I like the newer 2009 body style looks, it's classier, but not sure about reliability?

Sorry for the Q's, the 850 is starting to go on me. Would like to move up to a nicer, more refined ride.

Well, they are both too new to talk long term reliability....

:-)

Fwiw I would pick the low miles over time given the choice. The P2 ride is such a big bump up from the P80 I don't think the 2009 could be that much nicer. I've only rented the 2009 chassis a couple time and never for a long trip.

That looks like quite some money for both of them... especially the 2009 with almost 100k miles. But even the 2007, already 8 years old, even with lower miles I would be expecting more like around 8-9k.

But anyway, there are a lot of parts available indeed for the 2007, it's quite easy to work on it although the turbo means less space around the engine. Being an older model in it's generation, the reliability is quite good. This is no 850 when it comes with the driving pleasure, still a solid car, but has lost the 'soul' of the 850, as well as the looks - at least to my taste.

Haven't heard of many issues with the 2009, but I've heard quite some complains about the later 2012 models, with really annoying electrical issues and transmissions (yes, transmissions shifting weird even with very low miles). Maybe the 2009 wasn't affected. Also, the 2009 is quite a better car compared with the 2007 model. It would be quite a step up from the 850.
