2002 S80 T6 2.9 fly wheel removal

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

I've never done one, but I'd imagine you'd have to remove the engine or transmission to get the room to undo the bolts holding the flexplate to the crankshaft.

Its also recommended to change the rear main seal with a new Volvo part at the same time.

Perhaps looking for a write up on the rear main seal would provide more detail.

Hello,

You need to support the engine from above, remove/loosen a multitude of parts, lower/remove the subframe and after lowering the engine and tilting it down on the transmission side, slide the transmission out. If you've got the subframe out the way, it's a brilliant time to do the turbo oil drain seals, reseal the sump and replace the o-rings and as mentioned by matt5112, replace the real main seal.

This is where I'm at at the moment (2000 S80 T6 - rebuilding the transmission), but the 10 (!) flex plate bolts have 12 point bolt heads - I'll see if I've got a 12 point socket big enough:

Cheers,

Chris
