How do I check trans fluid level?

How do I check trans fluid level?

2001 S40-
So, I wanted to check the trans fluid level while the car is running (this is the manner in which I check it on my XC70: Hot engine, running). There is no way to get to the dipstick due to hoses in the way. Shall I just check it when the engine is OFF and I remove hoses? Any other methods to check for correct fluid level?

l put on gloves, long sleeve, safety glasses, and stay clear of the rad fan - it always starts on me when I least expect it.
Yes, the Swedes built the car around that yellow dipstick but it is what it is :D
Example of Precision: Measure with a Micrometer, mark it with Chalk, and then cut it with an Axe.
