2004 c70 front brake hose replacements

Post by brick8 »

I recently picked up a 2004 C70 that looks nice but needs plenty of deferred maintenance. I need to replace the front brake hoses. The pads and rotors are good but the hoses definitely need help. Just wondering if I will need to remove the calipers in order to replace the hoses or if I can do the replacement without removing them. I live in the rustbelt, so I want to avoid as many rusty bolts as I can. Will also be doing the timing belt, outer tie rods and endlinks, so there is sure to lots of cussin' go on in my garage then next few weeks!

You really can't replace the lines without removing the calipers or you will get the lines tied in a knot from threading them on. Removing the calipers is a very easy job though, much easier than getting the old lines off.

Thanks, I have spent the last few hours battling rusted lock nuts on the outer tie rod ends (tried pblaster, heat, etc., still no luck). I am going to run out of time this weekend, will need to battle the brakes next week. I also started getting ready for the timing belt job. Lots of fun in store for me.

I'd apply some penetrating fluid to the brake line fittings a good day or two before trying to loosen them. Several people have reported trouble getting the fittings to loosen without causing damage. I wrote up a short guide here (for the 850) that may help out with the '04. Good luck! :)

Thanks, I soaked them several times yesterday while fighting with the end links and outer tie rod ends. Rust is definitely my enemy.
