96 volvo 850R cruise control not working SOLVED

Post by phils94850 »

Ive been messing with this for the past couple of days trying to figure out what the problem was. I did all the tests per the volvo repair manual and it pointed towards a bad selector switch which i didnt believe because it was working as it should per my volt meter.

Anyways.. usually a common problem is a leaky vac line to the diaphragm that controls the accel pedal. I checked all that and mine was fine. I did some more searching and found where a guy figured out to add a "pad" to the brake pedal switch and the vac switch connected to the brake pedal that way the switch closes completely and well.. i have cruise control again. :). The problem was my upper switch that has a vac line coming from it, the switch wasnt closing completely and causing the CC not to engage. I took a piece of velcro and taped to it so it would close up the switch completely with the brake pedal all the way up.

So.. if you have CC issues try adding a pad to your brake switches :) simple fix :)

Thanks for posting and improving our odds of figuring out the problem.

Forums help separate the optimists from the realists. Optimists cruise along rejoicing in all the million things that haven't yet gone wrong . We realists drive hunkered over the wheel wondering what's going to break next. :P
