2006 S40 2.0D Accelerator failure but engine idles
2006 S40 2.0D Accelerator failure but engine idles
This problem occurs usually after the car has stood for a number of hours e.g. overnight. In the morning, I will travel approx. 2 km., and have to stop at a robot. The engine idles as normal with no sign of any problem. When the robot changes, I put my foot on the accelerator, but there is no response from the engine. Engine continues to idle. After roughly 1 minute of pressing the accelerator, the engine will start to respond intermittently, then returns to normal. If the car stands for the afternoon, the problem may re-occur if I go out again that evening. Any suggestions as to what the problem might be?

Wlcome aboard!
This sounds like a failing accelerator pedal sensor.
BTW what's that robot that you stop at (is that the only place the problem occurs?)

Example of Precision: Measure with a Micrometer, mark it with Chalk, and then cut it with an Axe.

Hi Regent,
No, it occurs at other places roughly the same distance from home.
Today, it happened at an intersection where I merely yielded.
I had to pull over for roughly a minute and wait for it to right itself.
There was a heavy smell of diesel (maybe as a result of testing the accelerator)
and a great cloud of smoke.
Thanks for your interest.
