2005 V50 Rear Washer Fluid Problem

Post by Reinie »

My 2005 V50 T5 FWD AUTO does not dispense washer fluid to the rear window (I purchased the car used, and it has never worked). I disconnected the rear nozzle and it was clean. Fluid would not come out of the open tubing when activated either. I noticed separate tubing leaves the tank, so I'm not sure if the front and rear washer fluid should activate at the same time. Anyone had this problem.

I'm an expert on this. My 200y V50 was the same. The rear washer is powered by the same pump in the reverse direction. The tube run goes FOREWARD from the pump, across behind the radiator, up under the right wheel fender, up the right "A" pillar, back on the right side of the headliner, and finally across the back to the jump to the tailgate. SOMWHERE along that run the hose is pinched. There's a joint near the top of the "A" pillar so you can check flow at that point.

In my case, the tube had been pinched under the passenger grab handle.

Yep, caught a glimpse of the tubing in the passenger "A" pillar. Its buried behind the side curtain airbags and wiring. Did you remove the entire headliner to get access or just the plastic side covers?

Okay, I just removed the "A" pillar and found the tubing. Also, removed the hose barb connection and tested. No flow when the front washers were deployed. The rear should activate simultaneous with the front washers, correct?

NO! The pump runs in REVERSE to supply the rear nozzle. (Push on the stalk, don't pull) Open up the left front wheel well cover to gain access to the resivoir & pump. You can track down the plumbing from there.

Hee hee. At least you didn't break anything. Do you have a owner's manual for the car? If not, you can download one from a site such as:
