I've got the same problem too. 1999 V70 173k miles, non-turbo had P0135, and P0136. Replaced both O2 sensors with Denso sensors (identical to the old ones). Also replaced J-hose on evaporative canister which was completely shot.

P0135 went out, but P0136 comes one after a few minutes. I've been watching the voltages with a scan tool and the front O2 sensor is about 400mV. The rear sensor ranges from 600-900mV, but it drops to 0V for a few seconds during rapid change in RPMs. Is this normal?

I saw a few posts about disconnecting the battery for 10+ minutes to clear the long-term fuel trim. I'm trying that right now.

Does anyone have any other ideas on this?

Not sure if it applies but Volvo Mech recommended ECU upgrade on the S80T. Another recommended rear O2 but you've done that already. Remove battery post and tap brakes also to be sure.

I just took it for a drive after having disconnected the battery for 10 minutes. So far so good! The voltage readings on the O2 sensors look MUCH more smooth, and the exhaust smelled a lot better, too. It smelled strongly of gas before, and didn't have a particularly strong gas smell afterwards.

I checked the drive test cycle status and I was able to get the O2 sensor to register as "Completed". So it appears that this has cleared up the issue of the recurring p0136 code.

Thanks for the reply BKM. It looks like this was the key that I was missing before!

I have the same problem. I think that the Denso sensor are a different type than pre 99.
I read a Volvo documernt stateing that this engine control is named ME7. There is a voltage that goes to the sensor and the sensor varies resistance.
Vacuum is perfect, changed sensor and got thee same low voltage.
With this site, I have refurbished 20 850'sd. This 99 V70 has given me fits. HELP!

The non turbos use a Denso ECM so it's definitely NOT ME7. That is a Bosch system for turbo cars of 99 plus vintage. You can use a Bosch sensor as I did in my non turbo 2000 V70 however it must be for the non turbo setup, not ME7. Easier just to buy a Denso sensor.
