Volvo S80 2.9 Performance

How to go faster, stop quicker, and turn harder. Chips, exhaust, larger turbos, bigger/slotted/drilled rotors, high performance brake pads, manual boost controllers, performance shocks/struts/springs, airbox mods and more! Also discussion on HID and Xenon lights, aftermarket foglights and other exterior lighting.

Volvo S80 2.9 Performance

Post by BellComps »

I just purchased a S80 2.9 last week. My choices were a 1999 T6 or the 2002 2.9 (They were the same price). I want to know what I can do to my 2.9 to get it up to T6 performance level. The car is by no means sluggish, but I definitely would like to improve my quarter mile. The biggest problem is acceleration. Once the car kicks into 2nd / 3rd gear it flys. I just upgraded the wheels to the T6 17inch alloys with michelin lowpros which did wonders to the general handling and sporty feel. Any suggestions?

The best way to obtain the T6 power would have been to purchase the T6. The 2.9 has 210HP and 207 torque, the T6 has 272HP and 280 torque, this is a substantial amount more. This power moving a vehicle that weighs 3600 pounds. Increasing the stock 2.9 to those power levels will be difficult in that very few upgrade components are made for the 2.9 NA (normally aspirated), which means a lot of trial/error, and ultimatly a substantial investment in time and money

Sorry there is not a simple answer
