2000 s40. key will not turn to start car
The ignition key will not turn far enough to b able to crank the car. I heard about changing the lock..where can I get one coded with my existing keys, and how can I start it temporarily until it is fixed? Thank u
This happen to my s40 also. What had happen is a small piece of metal broke off inside the barrel. The way I solved it is I took a very small screwdriver and stuck it in the keyhole and sorta wiggled it around scrapping the walls a bit. Then put the key back in and turned it. Not sure if this will work for you but it may.

I am not sure if it is the same set up I had on my C70 but I had the same problem. The ring that reads the chipped key is separate from the lock cylinder. So you can buy the cylinder (I bought mine from volvo $$$$) and it will come cut to your old key. As a temporary solution I put my key in the ignition, and turned the key enough to unlock the steering lock, and allow the ring to read the chip. Then I removed the ignition switch from the locking cylinder and was able to use a small flat blade to turn the switch to the start/run position.
