1990 240 rough idle when cold
1990 240 rough idle when cold
I have been having a off and on again problem with my Volvo for the last 2 years have noticed in the service records the last owner also had the same problem since 2010. Happens only first thing when starting car vibrates and lacks power till I give it gas for a few minutes then evens out and run fine for rest of day. This will happen for a few days and then will sometimes disappear for months only to return. Have used fuel injector cleaner didn't seem to cure have an AMM tester on right now still acting up. The problem has actually been a little different lately starts up fine but a mile down road will start to cut out I pull over for 5 minutes to wait til it evens out and then runs pretty good still doesn't sound 100 percent all the time. Any ideas out there tired of dealing with this???????

What was described represents a classic lean condition:ivylynn wrote:same problem since 2010.
1. Fuel Rail Pressure ???
a. Both Pumps Running
c. Is fuel tank filled up ???
2. Coolant Temp Sensor ???
No the fuel tank is mostly hovering around half full. I am desperate for any help my 85 Volvo had a wiring harness problem which cost me plenty to diagnose finally donated it to an organization. Now I bought a Volvo with another intermintent problem its enough to send me over the edge. When I turn the key to the on position I hear the fuel pump engage with a hum and a couple of clicks. Also now that its getting colder outside harder to start in the morning
Have you done an OBD self check for codes?
step:
1 Obd check
2 Coalant temp senser
3 Air filter box flap door/ air temp sensor ( look into complete temp sensor delete for the air box )
4 fuel filter
5 fuel pumps ( there are 2, one primary in tank and secondary outside under the car driver's side, usually )
6 Flame trap ( It causes oil leaks from back pressure through valve cover usually, also that box in the bottom, underneath the air intake will cause these problems you mentioned, FCP sells new kit for under $25 dollars US )
7 Air mass module.
8 FPR fuel pressure regulator
9 over flood of fuel due to O2 sensor short circut. ( o2 sensors have a extra lead that loops information when car is cold )
10 Fuel flood due to bad injectors
11 Bad vacum hoses bad throttle body ( dirty throttle body )
hope this helps, it's not in order, but I'd start with the easiest to hardest.
