Who can tell me where the traction control module is and what it looks like and can it be disconnected without affecting any thing else such as the ABS?
I know there is a button on the dash that de-activates it, however its annoying that I have to do this every single time I start the car.
If you're wondering, its because the module is defective and I don't wish to replace it due to cost.
Many thanks

My understanding of traction control is that it is an integral part of the Anti-lock Braking System. It is contolled by a module inside the ABS unit. It has been described as ABS working in reverse i.e. it stops a spinning wheel by using the ABS.
I don't think you can disconnect it in any way other than by the switch.
What makes you think it is defective?
Bill.

This is the problem.
I had the rear rotors changed recently, and about 2 weeks after evey so often the traction light flashed twice along with brief automatic braking, this has become more frequent with it flashing about 6 times in a 15 min trip and the ultimate was it just gave and turned itself off leaving the light on.
The mech that did the brakes, plugged three different readers onto the module but if refused to comunicate so I figure its fried.
I saw somewhere it may require a software update? or may be the wheel sensor is dirty?
Any thoughts?
Thanks

When you refer to 'the module' do you mean the ABS module? If the ABS module was fried the ABS light would be on on the dash.
I can't find any software updates for this but my list is not necessarily up to date. A call to a Volvo dealer would clarify the situation.
A dirty wheel sensor could cause a problem. Also a wheel sensor which may have been disturbed when the rotors were changed could play up. However, I can't see why a mechanic would need to touch the wheel sensors doing a rotor change.
Perhaps you could have someone else read the codes as some should have been set and, even with a bad ABS module they should be retrievable.
Bill.
