99 s70 Heater Core, anyone get the cheap one?

Post by speedyt5 »

Just wondering if anyone bought the same heater core as RSPI used in his video. The 40.00 one off ebay. Some people say it makes a smell when using heat because of the foam used. Some people say it doesn't. Just wondering if anyone has any input? I have purchased both the cheap one as well as a behr. The behr is 60 dollars more, but if it isn't going to smell, then the 60.00 is worth it. Will be doing this this weekend, so just getting some input. Thanks.

They all stink to an extent but the ebay version is particularly odoriferous unless you wash it. Other than having to wash it, the ebay version works great. Most folks just run it through the dishwasher before installing it.

Just place the entire thing in the dishwasher out of the box?

Thats the trick. If you have a heating element in the dishwasher you should probably turn off the heated dry.

Without asking posters to go back and view RSPIs video can you be more specific about which seller's heater core you are referring to? If it's the autolamps or volvonest version I have used one on my 2000 V70. Great heat output!!

Here it is

The price is certainly ABSURDLY low (free shipping too). But, many people have had a good experience with the part. I installed new heater hoses and a new coupler at the same time. Won't go back in for another 130k hopefully :)

Been running it for a year or so in my wife's '98 XC. It smelled pretty bad for most of last winter, but there is no smell now. Definitely clean it before installing (especially if your wife is the driver )

Or heat a pot of boiling water and rinse it off on your driveway.

Good to know. I just bought one based on reviews and never thought about putting it the dishwasher. I'll be installing this weekend and since my wife will be out early I can get away with it!!!
