With Volvo's new leaps in engineering and engine efficiency it would be a Volvo fan's dream to see them race at 24hrs. Well, here is a rendering of what their car might look like! Also, if you like F1, WTF1 is a great site that takes the racing seriously, but also stops to poke fun at the greatest soap opera in the world that is Formula One racing! Lewis and Nico-play nice!

Very cool. Though F1 and Le Mans are so far removed from road Volvos, I understand and appreciate the real-world gains that trickle down to production cars.
I can't get into Nascar or F1. I've tried. I admire Nascar because it's closed-wheel, and thus there is much "action"... bumping, daring moves, 4-wide in turns, etc. Even a road course track one weekend. But I also know there are almost (none at all?) trickle-down production car benefits from Nascar.

I really got into F1 after watching several races in succession. Much like NASCAR, after I understood the rules and the personalities it became much more entertaining. It has been interesting watching the cars change to suit the anticipated direction that real world cars will take. This year's cars are running turbo charged sixes with a supplemental electronic motor. Gone are are the V8s. Heck, they don't even call the new engines "engines", they call them "power units". Much like Audi did in the early 2000's with their TDI, I think Volvo could surprise people in the endurance racing scene. Their development of tri-turbo engines is nuts and also very clever. Efficiency without sacrificing power is the goal. And if all else fails you know their car would at least be comfortable!

I can actually see it working. If Peugeot can build a world class LMP1 car then why not Volvo? The Australian V8 Supercar program is going very well this year so I suspect that racing is getting a bit more attention at headquarters (Wherever that is these days).
F1 is likely a step too far and the FIA is screwing up F1 so badly that I question the value of even getting involved. I'm sure the Ferrari power unit will get some tweaks and/or the Mercedes power unit will get dogged down on orders from Bernie and company. Without a competitive Ferrari F1 is essentially dead and they know it. The success rate of new entrants in F1 is pretty abysmal - Caterham and Marussia are already dead and Lotus probably isn't far behind.
As sick of a joke as it is, Formula E might actually be a better fit and its easy since they all run a spec Dallara chassis and about the only technical differences are the decals on the car. From a marketing perspective it is also a better fit.
Volvo performance has historically been a secret and I'm OK with that. The cops don't pay a lick of attention to a Volvo.
I love the subtle classic Volvo grill on the rendering.

Agreed on all fronts Lee. I would love to watch the jaws drop if Volvo actually did dip a toe in the LMP1 waters but honestly it makes sense to me. I think they could really do it, especially with gobs of money Geely seems to be allowing Volvo for development. I assume Chinese people like to go fast just like everybody else!
