1998 v70 Vibrates when driven

Post by aga1221 »

I just took a 1998 V70 for a test drive ( I am thinking about buying it) but when I drove it it vibrated inside. The dealer told me its prob the tire that needs to be replace. Can anything else be causing this problem? Also the ABS and track lite comes and goes.Is this sth serious? The car has 150000 miles on it . Thanks for your input

The ABS/TRACS light could come and go for some very common reasons and not be a big deal, so by itself it is hard to comment on that.

However, if one of the axles was in bad shape then that might cause both bad vibration and for the light to come and go. That's an expensive repair if you don't know how to DIY it.

The vibration could also be connected to a bad tire, or to some part of the brakes. If it was just a tire then you could change the vibration by moving the front tires to the back and vice-versa, that is one crude way to test it.

In my opinion this car would need to be looked at by a mechanic before buying it.

I'd be inclined to tip-toe away from this dealer. He's just flipping cars that he bought at auction probably. If you want an old volvo, you are many times better off going private sale. If a dealer, one who specializes in Volvo/Saab type cars.

Coming from a dealer that is not wanting to fix it before he sells it, sounds a little fishy and you don't need to be on the hook. The mileage isn't bad if it has been cared for. If engine is super clean, then that could be a problem. I am again looking for a 98 V70 but my budget is around $1500.00 and thinking I will need to put that much into it with me doing all the labor.
Post pics and price if you are still interested.
