2002 S80 Transmission Problem Codes P0742 and P0842

The car will not start off in drive or 3rd. It acts like it is neutral. I can drive the car if I manually shift (it is not the slap-shift transmission), starting in 1st and it will even shift into overdrive, but it is very delayed and the car must be warm. First seems to slip, but the rest of the gears seem normal, except that the shifts are delayed. If the car is not moving fast enough and I try to shift to third, it will go out of gear completely, like it is in neutral. After it is up to speed and in fourth, the car drives fine and will downshift to third normally. The fluid looks dirty but does not smell burnt.

I was just wondering if this was a common problem and trying to decide where to go from here. Thanks.
