1996 850 Wagon Mystery Hose

Post by banjoman »

I just finished replacing the PCV system on my non-turbo 850 and have a hose left over that has me baffled. It is black with a red stripe and about 18 inches long. I think it fell off of the intake manifold when I moved it but am not sure. The videos on the web for the PCV job do not mention it. Does anyone know where it goes?

Unless someone knows the answer, can I suggest taking a photo of the tube and of the engine in the proximity of the pipe.

I wonder if it was being used for the line from the intake manifold to the flame trap housing.

+1 to Neil's rquest, heck we can only pretty much only guess anyway, might as well have some more info.

If the car runs well then you probably didn't leave anything out. Are all of the vac lines in place (https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... =1&t=65002)?

Hopefully the photo is attached. The hose is 18" long and has a 3/8" outside diameter. I think it fell out when I was moving the intake manifold to gain access to the PCV system. I was careful to keep track of everything else, but this hose had me stumped. Yes, I did reconnect all of the vacuum hoses and engine seems to run fine.

It is not a factory hose, for what it's worth. It is about the correct size and length for the hose from the intake manifold to the flame trap housing, which would likely be under the manifold if someone had tried to set up a replacement. I would put the hose in the spare parts box (unless it is rotted) and move on ...

I installed an all-new PCV system including hose for the flame trap. The engine is running fine with no codes, so I will put the mystery hose away and keep going. I appreciate the comments.
