2000 v70xc a/c works great but no heat

Post by pbob42 »

car running really good. A/c blows cold. Heater doesn't heat. Don't think it is the heater core, no coolant smell or film on windshield. Seems to be electrical. Turn the a/c off, kick the temp up to 80. No heat. Sometimes look down and the a/c light is back on, even though the temp is at 80.

any thoughts?

What is the history on the car? Is this your first winter season with it?

It is possible that the heater core went bad previously and it was bypassed. The way to tell is to feel the lines that run to the heater core connection on the firewall which are, more or less, just behind the #5 cylinder. Make sure that those are hot to the touch.

Another possibility is that the heat damper door is stuck. I have the A/C on most of the time, even in the winter, to help with defogging and the heat from the heater core more than overcomes the cold air output. If you are in the defrost mode the A/C will be on by default.

THis is my first winter. I did have it on defrost so that might be why the a/c light was coming on. I will check the hoses. THanks
