2000 s70 t5 code p0014

Post by clifford06 »

Hello. Just got a p0014 code today. My code reader says "cam position timing over advanced." I had noticed fuel economy was starting to lack a few weeks ago. Start up idle a little eractic for a few seconds. Car has sat for about a week while waiting for front end parts. Before I buy a new replacement , I can scavenge off a couple of local parts cars, to see if those parts solve my problem.

1. Is my car safe to drive ?
2. Where does the harness plug in at ? I haven't had time to trace my current wiring due to work.
3. What brands have you replaced yours with?

Any insight is respected.

That code is usually associated with the pre-load on the CVVT being incorrectly set but that only happens after a timing belt change. As you have no doubt surmised, the error can also be due to a faulty CVVT control solenoid.

We have had a couple if members that have just had bad electrical connections at the solenoid but from your question it sounds like you have one of the newer solenoids that have no connector which makes using an ohmmeter a bit tougher to test the solenoid for resistance. The best way to test in that case is to use tacks or pins to pierce the insulation and provide a place to hook up the test leads. The solenoid should have fairly low resistance - in the 10 to 20 Ohm range as I recall. If it reads open it is most certainly bad.

Even if the solenoid tests good electrically it can still be plugged up or the passages in the cam cover can be clogged. That is fairly easily cleaned but you will need a new gasket.

Thanks Ozark for the response. Wise Owl giveth knowledge. I was able to go to my local pick n pull and find cam sensor . It was from a 2001 s80. Part # Volvo 9202134. It is the same as mine. Contacted my local dealer, and they say this part fits a wide number of models. CEL is now off and car runs better.
My quick post was due to not wanting to miss work. Holiday Pay.!! I will keep your response in case this one goes bad. I'll also look into the passage to check for buildup. I'll check my original sensor.
