Help Needed in Portland, OR - Volvo 850 - Will not start

Post by jjs70pdx »

Car stalled last week, was able to restart a few times and now will not start at all. Located in Portland, OR. Is anyone available to help me figure out what the issue is?

From Phoenix and somewhat of a novice myself but... don't see any other help coming your way.

First things first... can you check if it for sure is getting gas? can you check for sure is it getting spark?

I'm confident other more experienced members will be available if we need them.

It is getting spark and fuel pump sounds like it is still priming. Do not have a fuel pressure gauge to test it. Got a 1-2-1 code a few weeks back when the issue first showed up - points to faulty mass airflow sensor but that was replaced with a new on about a year ago by the previous owner before I bought the car.

Any other suggestions on troubleshooting would be appreciated. Thanks

A little over my head already but...
Generally, in my experience, if the electric fuel pump runs continually there's nothing to pump... but air. Do you have a valve on the end of the fuel rail? Looks like a tire inflating valve. Depress it slightly and check if fuel squirts out.
Additionally, click on the REPAIR tag at the top of the main page of this forum and browse through for possible ideas.
I'll continue to help if I can.

I see a relatively new post speaking to "no start" issues. Browse that for possible direction.
