98 V70 T5 Anyone tried this timing belt kit?

Post by songzunhuang »

I came across this timing belt kit on Amazon.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004ZQLDW4/ref ... TRGO5WUG03

It seems like a pretty good deal being a lot less than other kits I've seen. I'm just wondering if any of the forum members have tried it. Thanks in advance for any insight.

I have not and don't know of anyone that has. If your water pump is over 10 years old you should replace it as well.

I say go for it. Run it to 100,000 miles or untill something fails and report back.

The pricing on the kit is great but I would recommend sticking with OEM components to be more sure of the quality and reliability.

I've used Beck Arnley parts before, no issue. Don't buy the URO water pump in the bundle kit, that sounds scary.

The dealer has a timing belt kit and it is not expensive. Get a quote, you will be surprised and I would trust it more than the components listed. Beck Arnley does not mfg anything typically, they source.
It looks like an INA tensioner pulley, as for the rest it doesn't look familar.
I personally would never use an aftermarket TB tensioner.

The dealer kit doesn't include the water pump, for that try Amazon but look up Aisin its near bomb proof.

I already purchased the Aisin OEM water pump from IPD.
The Beck Arnley retail is just as much as the OEM. I saw that Amazon has an "Open Box" version of the Beck Arnley kit available for $94! So for the bucks I saved on the OEM heater hoses (I used a DIY blue silicon setup that is working quite well), I could get the timing belt kit.

Yup, I understand. I bought the Aisin water pump from IPD.
I've seen too many warnings about URO parts. I avoid them like the plague. Thanks for the tip.

This.

It may not matter if someone had bought it before, because you really don't know if you would get the same parts. Beck Arnley buys stuff, puts it in a Beck Arnley box, and sells it. They don't commission manufacture of anything, they are a reseller. Over time they will switch sources. B-A can be a good way to buy parts if you can open the box and inspect the brand name on the item, like at the parts counter; you might get a high quality part for a good price.

1+,

You can buy the Volvo TB Kit PN 30758260 for about $120 or so. Believe it or not, it is cheaper than other online vendors selling aftermarket parts.

Timing Belt is tricky business, it is a light bulb that you can buy any brand.
The HT is made by Aisin....about $80-$90
The TB is made by Conti.
The Pulleys x2 made by INA.

The Volvo TB Kit above does not include the HT, which can be purchased separately. TB is not something I want to play Russian Roulette.

INA is a good brand. It is German, but made in Slovakia which is fine. I've just bought an INA idler pulley. Have it at home and it looks very well made. I'm replacing it just for fun as the old one seems just fine. I always buy the best stuff that I can find.

Aisin and Continental are OEM of course.
