I honestly mean no disrespect. I commend your discipline to the craft.
All apologies for the early response. After reading back I understand completely.
I actually believe we are on the same page.
I certainly know how to do things right as designed, and recommend it.
Respectfully.

Wait, that would be Doppler?
Bernoulli had beautiful Equations. Most of which were stepping stones to better things.
Lift, Drag, my goodness. A beautiful mind for sure.

Some words about designing for guaranty time in automotive industry:
-I have never seen it in my practice (especially in case of safety relevant/main parts).
-They are designed and validated for lifetime (around 15-20years; 300k-600k km and 6000-10000 operating hours depending on what car we are talking about)
-OEMs define different reliability/confidence targets and lifetime for each part, which could bring difference in reliability and obviously there are well designed and over-designed (we like these ones here...
) parts as well.

We like those as well Atis. I believe Hungary is stamped on more than a few parts on my vehicles.Atis wrote:Some words about designing for guaranty time in automotive industry:

@craywm,craywm wrote:...Sure I read all the negative comments about "oil and heater hose" but really, that old brittle tube literally fits inside the diameter of the heater hose...
I can tell that you are a very knowledgeable and meticulous individual.
For those who fear the "heater hose vs oil", fear not.
Believe it or not, when I started out this thread 2 years ago, I cut a small section of the same heater hose, immersed in engine oil in a jar and let it "brew" inside my garage now for > 2 years.
Guess what, I removed the hose the other day to look and it looks like brand new, no damage from the oil.
I will post a photo of this experiment when I have more time.
As I mentioned earlier, heater hose runs inside the engine compartment all the time. It is exposed to coolant, heat, and oil. Even in the case of Turbo coolant hose getting oil drip from above, it took mine some 15y/140K to swell from the heat and oil (I replaced it already). So I have every confidence that the heater hose used for this purpose (venting CC gas) will easily last 10y/100K. By that time, the car is probably somewhere in the junkyard...
In the mean time, the machine still runs without smoking dipstick. In other words, I am very happy with this mod.
