1998 S70 T-5M;
Cooling Fan or Fan Relay Switch?

I start the car (cold) within 10-30 seconds, the auxiliary fan starts running and continues to run until I shut the engine off. I let the engine run after coming home from work, and you can hear the fan trying to shut off after it runs it cycle, but starts back up and runs until I turn the engine off. I did replace the relay switch two years ago with the same model. Recommendations or suggestions are welcome.

Search forum for "ECT Sensor".
Use only Volvo or SWF brand, no other brand!
I wrote a DIY in forum somewhere...

Re: Engine Cooling Fan

This morning I was driving to work and (now), my temperature gauge went from normal (middle) to red hot and slowly back down to cold (bottom) and returned to the middle by the time I returned home to get my wife's car to go to work. After I took her car out the garage and placed mine inside, the engine fan kept running. So disconnected the fan switch on top of the cooling shroder.

I did replace the three prong engine fan switch with an original Volvo or whoever make this product for Volvo.
No defrost, heater, or A/C on during these incidents.

Many thanks to all who replied and provided a resolution to my problems. Yesterday, I purchased the thermostat and "ECT" sensor from Volvo. This weekend, I will replace the parts along with engine coolant and oil change.

Have a wonderful and safe holiday season.

I just replaced the sensor and tstat because I was getting a P0116 and the fan stayed on and no problem now. You also can turn the fan off by resetting the code but got tired of doing that.
