2007 xc90 considering purchase...things to consider???

Post by mrscullini »

the t-belt on my 2000 v70xc slipped, crashing valves into the pistons. with 215k on the clock i think it is time to pull the plug. found what looks like a clean '07 with 65k on the clock for $17500 at a dealer. it has a v8, which is way more motor than i need (or really want). a few questions;

1. anything major issues with this my?
2. what is rep on the v8 and tranny (it seems the trannys on the 04-06 t-6 were suspect)
3. i'm used to doing my own work and the engine compartment seems cozy, how diy friendly is this?
4. does this motor have a t-belt?
5. any other insights would be appreciated

The V8 is a great engine. No t belt but the serpentine belt idlers and tensioner pulleys need to be changed at 90K as some fail before 100K and can damage the front engine cover. They are steel pulleys and the bearing in them can be easily pressed out and a $7 bearing pressed back in. Transmissions are good if the fluid is serviced, otherwise valve body issues can crop up just as with other Aisin-Warner linear solenoid gearboxes in all makes using them.
The DIY is OK but you may need anger management counseling for some tasks. Alternator is behind and low mounted and requires RH axle removal for access.

The alternator is a "Painful" job, probably $1000 at dealer for the V8.

I am enjoying my 2005 2.5T XC90...

Find a 2004-2006 2.5T, you will like it. Make sure you do the timing belt at ~100K or so.

Look at autotrader dot com, craigslist etc.
There should be some in the Bay's or Sacramento area.
