That's what the work shop told me 1,5 years ago when the same error accurred. Could you tell me what the right way is, given that I have +12V on pin 2 in the cam shaft sensors connector? (as in the video I linked to).

What about this....do you have a spark?FLXC90 wrote:OP says couldn't get it to fire on ether, are you sure you have spark?

Yes, as I posted in the first post it sparks on all five cylinders. And later I posted that I discovered it sparks 60-70 degrees before zero. I tried the start fluid straight into the cylinders and the enginge coffed a bit once the plugs where back, but with that advance timing ignition I guess not even ether is going to make it run.

So...you are saying that timing is wrong.
On these cars...timing tolerance is up to 3 teeth.Everything after that pistons would hit valves and that would be game over.
With tolerance up to 3 teeth, engine will start and run but it will run badly and idle badly.
So...it can't be timing.

I don't have any answers, just trying to clarify ...
OP has posted it 3 times now: he is not talking about mechanical timing (when the valves open and close relative to piston stroke), he is talking about the timing of the spark. Spark timing can certainly be wrong without any disturbance of mechanical timing.
Are the plug wires attached in the correct order? That little metal thing under the rotor is in the correct orientation?

no fire with ether = no spark. possibly a relay or fuse.

OP has stated a couple times now, the car has spark on all 5 cylinders, but the spark is out of time with the compression stroke.

Exactly Erik, ether was to identify strictly whether it was a fuel problem, since that was being postulated at start of the thread. That was ruled out and OP stated timing advance 60 degrees before TDC and we know ignition timing is in the ECU. Therefore, it appears to be a programming problem/fault in the ECU. Could the Crank and cam position sensors play into it with a bad input? Or are they simply a failsafe for the interference motor?

Since cams run at different speed than the crank, could the CPS base and plate be installed 180 out? would that throw it off by about 90 degrees?

Scratch that last one, car would not have been running, DUH! Ok but if the sensor failed, it would screw up signal to ECU. It may test statically, but not work properly. Without reading codes, can't call it good. Mike, do you have another cam sensor to test with?
