2000 XCV70 VVT Problem? No Compression? (PICS)
A few days ago my 2000 v70 lost all compression on all cylinders. I took the timing belt off, and all timing marks are on place (crank and both cams). This is shown in the first picture. I then took off the exhaust cam sensor and the plastic cover on the intake cam. These were the results. The intake cam(first picture) is in line, the exhaust cam(last picture) is not, even though at the front of the engine the timing marks are lined up. How do I fix this problem?

Dump a teaspoon of oil into each cylinder through the spark plug holes and then replace the spark plugs and coils. Keep cranking until it starts and keeps running on its own.
I suggest you do this outside since there will be a huge smoke cloud. No permanent damage has occured to the engine, they just do that. Search "Lawnmower Syndrome" for discussions as to why it happens.

You did replace the cam position sensor didn't you? I know its a dumb question but I need to ask anyway.
Did the compression return after you dumped in the oil? On the very rare occasions that this has happened to me the compression comes back after about 5 to 10 seconds of cranking but the car sputters pretty bad for the first 30 seconds or so after it finally starts.

A couple of pages back there is a post 2000 v70 exhaust cam alignment. In that post there is a video on installing TB with exhaust VVT. Your rear cam guide, slots, are in a different position that mine were.

When the timing belt got removed chances are you messed up the CVVT preload unless you cranked the engine an additional 90 degrees clockwise past the marks and then counterclockwise back to marks. That said, the car will still start and run fine but it will throw a P0014 code. Setting the preload and resetting the timing is easy but get the car to start first.

First you need to verify that you have compression again. From there verify spark and fuel.
