2002 v70 alarm siren not working

Volvo want the earth for a new unit and having tried three units from breakers yards and found them all to be in the same corroded state as mine I was wondering if anyone had tried installing an aftermarket siren as these cost peanuts compared to the proper Volvo siren .

The problem is interfacing the alarm with car systems. I'm in the same boat, trying to find a working board. I attempted fixing mine w/out luck. The board was corroded thru. Funny that people sell them on ebay, out of cars that are some 15 yrs old and tell you they still work. If you look up battery life for similar cells such as the alarm is equipped with it's only 2 yrs.

You won't get a third-party one to work, this is a module which communicates on the CAN-bus, not just a siren.

You can get a software delete fix, which stops the car from looking for the siren (this requires dealer intervention).

it certainly seems like volvo never intended the diy mechanic to have much joy working on their cars .
ive owned 2 before . a 740 which was supurb and very simple to work on and an 850 which again was so simple . any upgrades were simply plug and play and the electrics were so so less complicated . ive contacted the main dealer regarding a few electrical upgrades to my 2002 v70 and everytime they hit you with the "needs software" answer . i wouldnt mind if it was a case of £30 or £40 but what they charge for plugging in a laptop and pressing a couple of buttons is outragious .
i wanted the trip computer software for mine as it didnt come with the car . £302 + vat just for the software.

I'm not advocating buying a used one, but I have swapped these from one car to another without any type of software. My wife's S60 has one from another car and has worked fine for the past 3+ years.

My solution was to pull the fuse that fed power to the alarm, and then have the Volvo dealer mechanic 'remove' its function from the car's onboard computer. This when I was in to have some other programming updated. Cost me a sixer of beer as a tip. Reinstalled the fuse. No alarm now, but the red blinky light on the dash still blinks all night. Not a big demand for high mileage Volvos with the local thieves.
