It should just go to http://localhost/vida/ - no .com unless the VMWare is somehow different.

On my standard VIDA installation I have to wait a few minutes after I boot windows for VIDA to start. The VIDA logo is in my system tray and it goes from red to yellow (starting) and then finally to green (running). If I try to launch VIDA before it goes green it errors. You want to run VIDA All in One, not VIDA on the web.

If that ^ doesn't work, post back to this topic and I may be able to help, if it's a hosts thing (localhost etc.). I used to have to edit that file often on XP as a developer.

Essentially, your XP machine becomes a web server, serving pages to you, assembled by Vida.

Don't worry, it's not accessible to the real-world Internet unless you have the combination of poor machine security + your Windows machine is connected to the Internet.

thanks lee and matt. i wasn't being patient enough. once vida was "green lighted" in the system tray i was up.

my dice unit should arrive towards the end of the week. where in vida do you read codes, reset counters, etc. there were about 5 tabs at the top of the page, vehicle id, etc.

My procedure for installing the VIDA 2012b images. I figured I would document this while it was still fairly fresh in my mind. I had a few stumbles, but was mostly successful.

I’m running a Win7 Home Premium machine, 64 bit, AMD Athlon II P320 Dual Core 2.1 GHz, 8 gigs ram

1. Downloaded & installed VMware 7.0
a. https://my.vmware.com/web/vmware/free#d ... player/7_0
2. Downloaded the image files from first post
a. I’m running FF as my browser, I had to add the Mega plugin to download
3. To unzip & combine the image files, you need 7-Zip, downloaded & installed
a. http://www.7-zip.org/
4. To unzip & combine, I selected the first image file and 7-Zip did the rest, it only took about 10 minutes, I then had a sub-directory with 14 gigs of VIDA files.
5. To run VIDA, this is what I do,
a. There is a file “Windows XP Professional”, it is a 3 Kb file, the type is VMware virtual machine configuration
b. Double clicking on this will launch VIDA in VMware
c. I get a download message, which I ignore (Remind me later)
d. Windows XP will then be starting in its own window
e. Everything now is on the XP virtual machine
f. Once XP is running you will get VIDA directions on the desktop
g. There is a small VIDA icon in the system tray, it will go from red to yellow to green, VIDA is now ready
h. From the start menu, launch VIDA All-in-one, VIDA should start and you login with “admin”
i. VIDA runs on IE, the address will be something like “https://localhost/vida/”
j. I usually shut down all apps and disconnect from wifi, only run the virtual machine

This all worked for me. I’m now waiting on my DICE unit to arrive. I’m not sure yet how DICE & VIDA interface, I’m hoping with VIDA running, it is simply plug-n-pray.

A quick follow up on my VIDA-DiCE setup.

2001 V70XC is running great over VIDA-DiCE 2014A.
Adding 1997 850 VIN to "vehicle profile" brings up ALL repairs and parts info, but DiCE does not recognize 97 ECU. It is working out fine, I have MVS!

The VIDA installation places an icon for DiCE Admin on desktop.

In my setup, I connect the DiCE hardware to OBD-II port, and USB to laptop. Then click on the DiCE Admin, turn key to POS-II.

The DiCE Admin interface has a "connect" button, which would make the connection with ECU.
Now open the VIDA All-in-One.

thanks. going to try the image on a virtual m/c first. however, i am getting vida 2013a with the dice unit so i may result to a dedicated real machine. do you happen to have an installation procedure?

SO: You've downloaded the 7zip files and extracted and assembeled their contents.
Do you have a folder on your host machine labeled "WindowsXP SP3 - VIDA 2012B"?

You've installed the VMware player.

Then:

• launch VMware player on your host machine.
• In VMware Player, click "Player / File / Open"
• Navigate to the small file labeled "Windows XP Professional.vmx"
• Before clicking "Play Virtual Machine," click "Edit virtual machine settings" to set up printer access, virtual memory, shared storage, etc.

If you are planning on using the VIDA image with a DiCE interface, you may want to extract the C: Program Files \ DiCE folder to your host machine when establishing connection to the DiCE and flashing its software to match the 2012b VIDA. The thought of flashing an EPROM through an emulator is scarey to me.
