2004.5 s40 t5 Ignition switch troubles

Post by JoshM123 »

I own a 2004.5 s40 t5. I went to start it this morning and the electronic key wont go all the way in to the ignition switch. Key won't turn, thus the car won't start. Do I have to replace the ignition switch? If so is that a difficult job to do in my driveway? Also is this a junk yard part or do I have to order one from Volvo? Anyone else have this issue?

Ok the problem seemed to fix it's self. This car has a water leak problem so every time it rains water collects in the driver's side rear floor. So every morning I have to scrape the inside of the windows, so I think moister got into the key slot and froze. So now to fix the water leak.

I'll bet it's the sunroof drains. That's a "must fix," since water around the seats can corrode and compromise the SRS wiring.

Pull the "A" pillar covers and verify that 1/2 cup of water into each corner of the sunroof gutter runs out through the 90% inaccessible elbow forward under the windshield. I "roto-rooted" the elbow with a small flexible wire with a crank bent into it, followed by a flush. It may also be uncoupled. There are also two other joints at the top under the headliner on each side.. There are You Tube videos on this fix.
