Stock stereo stopped working

I know how to remove the stereo but how do I check if it's completely broken? It was working then suddenly while listening to it, it just seemed to have no power.

The standard radio in my 2002 C70 has done this a bunch of times (although from memory the one thing that would still work is the display backlighting for some reason). What I've done is just disconnect it from the power, leave off for a bit (time neede has varied from seconds to hours), reconnect and that has always worked perfectly. Strange but effective, so I hope it also works for you.
