Re: 1999 V70 XC Clicking sound from underneath
just updating post from this morning. checked out car and found "clicking" noise to be park brake cable against right rear tire. went thru slush this morning and then noise instantly started. couple of zipties for temp repair til next weekend. money stays in pocket at least for today.cable clip must have broke free and went against rear tire causing clicking noise.

Much cheaper and less work than a propshaft!daveyboy8 wrote:just updating post from this morning. checked out car and found "clicking" noise to be park brake cable against right rear tire. went thru slush this morning and then noise instantly started. couple of zipties for temp repair til next weekend. money stays in pocket at least for today.cable clip must have broke free and went against rear tire causing clicking noise.

Hi all (and thank you for the many good comments),
My 1999 V70 XC wagon has just started the "clunking" routine, intermittent but can get quite loud. From below I was able to push up on the fwd portion of the "propeller" shaft - there was some play. I assume this means excessive wear inside the fwd joint/coupling.
I haven't seen replies to certain aspects of the problem (apologies if I overlooked them).
Questions:
1 Is it possible that only the fwd joint/coupling is bad? If yes, is it easily replaced (meaning not a pressed-on fit)?
2 Is it better to replace the entire shaft with a quality rebuild (coloradodriveshafts, etc)?
3 If replacing the entire shaft, is there anything else that should be replaced? Like the support bearing in the middle.
thanks in advance,
Chris

Hi Chris, I just installed a Colorado driveshaft into my nephews 2000 V70 XC. It came with a new carrier bearing. I also put on a new crossmember P/N 9474483. I thought it was a great value. Straight forword remove and replace.
