Luckily I don't have a sunroof to deal with. These comments you all have given are great. The videos were especially helpful. I really like that Pittsburgh Steelers cap since i grew up around there. I am considering removing the headliner, prepping it and replacing it, but hiring a professional shop to provide the material and apply the fabric. That way I get someone who has some skills and the best fabric selection to do what shows and me to do the grunt work. I'll have to get a quote before I decide for sure. I saw some camo headliner that peaked my interest. If it weren't for the tan grab handles, etc I might just go for it. Pair that with camo seat covers and you've got something special...high tech redneck...

Do not be intimidated by the fabric application part of this job. I did mine outside on the back deck on a patio table in the dead of Winter -- I mean cold, cold, cold. The 3M adhesive I used wasn't temperature sensitive (I checked before doing it). The actual fabric application takes about fifteen minutes (I'm being generous) if you go slowly and carefully. In my experience, the key to being able to do the fabric installation well, was to have a big table to put the headliner on and plenty of room to walk around that table unimpeded. I have a one inch long crease, front to back in the middle of mine, but you wouldn't know it was there if I didn't tell you about it. A camo headliner would hide any small imperfections.

Why let the tan grab handles stop you? Grab some blue painter's tape and some olive drab spray paint and go wild with custom camo grab handles. Hi-tech redneck -- gotta love that. . . Antler hood ornament?

Actually eshowell one of the guys I work with is a deer hunter and he suggested a deer skull complete with antlers mounted on the grill. I added the idea of putting either red or orange LED's in the eye sockets. The irony makes me laugh. I bought this car for my daughter about six years ago for very little. I figured that eventually I would take it over and use it as a daily driver and camping car...thus the possible camo theme. I considered selling it to her and then decided to swap my newer more reliable car with her. I mention the camo as a public service to others...it will definitely hide your mistakes.

I've actually done a headliner before (83 T-bird) and although its not intimidating to me its tough to do a good job without flaws especially with all that square footage I'm a perfectionist and if I do the work and I know where every flaw is it will drive me crazy.

Note: i lived in Barnegat and Lakewood NJ back in the early eighties. Worked at scout camp in Millville in the mid seventies. i haven't been back to NJ much since.

Any suggestions to stop it from sagging - containing the sag?

I just noticed mine was sagging as I was driving. I had the windows open and looking in the rear view mirror I saw the very back flapping in the wind. It isn't bad yet but over the cargo area there is an area that is definitely sagging. It is maybe a span of maybe 1 foot or so in from the rear. Any way to try to contain it?

The ultrabudget fix would be push pins/thumbtacks, but there is a significant aesthetic penalty associated with their use. Additionally, you'll never be at concourse level at the next show unless you use Swedish push pins.

I have talked with a friend of mine that had a problem with his windshield post material coming loose and he took the spray 3M glue and sprayed one side and waited till it was dry and then just lightly stuck it back in place. To much pressure and it will be stiff to the touch and look messy. The bond between the foam and the material give up and the only real way is to replace.
My '99 is flapping in the breeze now, but the one in my '98 is going to replace it. Guess if I had time to try and fix the '99, I would at least know if it would work or not.
To many irons in the fire right now and the summer heat isn't helping much.
Yes, I am old and complaining, a little.

I am thinking strong earth magnets. two or three across the top to contain it hopefully. looks like they are super cheap on ebay. $5-10 should do it. i will just take off the magnets before the auto shows

Roberts video for headliner removal does not look complicated. If you don't have a sunroof, even better. However, I still have not gotten around to doing my saggy roof. I always make a joke that I will re-upholster it with Gucci or Louis Vuitton pattern one day.

Beware, those plastic trim components are practically explosive in terms of their brittleness.

Yeah - my concern is time and how many clips/brackets will i break. I broke part of the clips changing my lift gate struts recently and even the plastic cover split. and my tailgate cover is being held on with 3 inch metal screws and large washers because ... well lets not even start with that job.

I do have a sunroof (which I hate frankly. i never use them yet every car has them...such a waste).

if i get the magnets I will post back how it works.
