1999 S70 T5 Ignition tumbler, no longer needed, recode?
I have a brand new ignition tumbler for my 99 s70 that I bought coded for my car by telling them the VIN number over the phone. Turns out for the past month ever since that tumbler came, my old one has been working fine. Also I think at this time if something did go wrong I would just cut the plate on the bottom. Is it possible that this could be used for someone else's car? Someone that needs one that I would sell for less than half the price I paid new? Can it be recoded? Can they use it and just purchase get a key made for it by me giving them my VIN? Any ideas? There is a brand new 300$ tumbler sitting in my closet. UGH!

If it was giving you trouble before,
it's a near certainty that it will again.
I would keep that spare on hand...

Cut the bottom plate now before you are stranded, been there done that.
Re your tumbler, I am afraid it is not only the key part but also the electronic part that are unique to your car. So this part only fits your car in both (tumbler and electronic chip) respects.

There's nothing coded about the ignition switch assembly,
just the antenna ring. The coded chip is in the key.

That's why I said "ignition switch Assembly".
My point is that there's nothing electronically
specific to your car in the ignition key cylinder,
contact block or antenna ring. It's just mechanically
pinned for your factory issued, VIN based key.
