S model Volvos
I am the owner of 3 Volvos, all 70 series. My youngest will be driving soon and we are considering trading off our '99 C70 convertible on a more conservative model for him to drive. I have seen a few S- Series and but have heard they are not the best of purchase decisions. Any insight into this?

The S versions are really not terribly different than the V. From the front seats forward they are identical so there really isn't anything unique about the sedans. You have a '99 C70 so you already know about the Electronic Throttle Module on the '99 and '00 cars. The only one that I would consider remotely strange is the AWD S70 since it has some unique parts.
They all have the same irritating things like the door panels that bubble but that crosses the entire spectrum.

I love(d) my S70 T5 and my current V70XC.
I think they look great and run great. Unless absolutely necessary to have, I would avoid AWD in either the S or V as some parts and repairs are way more complicated.
I'd probably still have the S70 if I had found this site earlier. But as Ozark Lee said, they have their issues. Find a solid one and you should be good for a long time as parts seem to be fairly accessible.

S if for sedan so its not the line. A S60 and S40 are different models as is the S80. The 60/70 series were similar.
On S60 or V70 think 2004 or newer. If AWD go for same years. They are the most reliable of the modern Volvo's.
On S80's I hear they improved greatly in 07 and to avoid them pre 07, but my experience with them is third hand.
Others will chime in.
