parts compatibility: '89 740 GLE sedan and '90 740 GL wagon

Hello,

I was thinking of buying a cheap '89 740 GLE sedan to use as a parts car for my '90 740 GL wagon. Of course, before doing so I wanted to know if the two are compatible (namely with regard to the tranny and whole engine itself). Please inform.

In '89 & '90 Volvo produced the 740GL (Engine B230F), 740GLE 16 valve (Engine B234F) and 740Turbo (Engine B230FT). Manual transmissions were M47 on the B230F and M46 on the B230FT and B234F. Auto transmissions were AW70L on the B230F, AW71 on the B230FT and AW72 on the B234F.

The engines and transmissions should be interchangeable but there may be subtle differences on mountings etc. I am unable to find any details of these.

i think you will also find that some of the front headlight and turn lights are different as well as some of the interiors dash assemblies.. the newer ones being better!
