Bleeding the brake is actually easy b/c I have the air compressor.
The brake hose, chances are your mechanic may need to use a propane torch to heat the nut.
Many people strip the nut causing even bigger headache. Once the nut is heated then it is easy.
I assume your mechanic knows how to heat the nut!

Yeah, I saw compressor DIY. That is a really good idea and a nice DIY set of instructions. I have the small HF compressor which would work and I have been planning to do something like that with a garden sprayer but I don't have time for another project right now. I had been looking forward to the shocks and struts for weeks. I enjoy work like that. I can't really explain it but I just really hate working on brakes..always have.

I had a 1999 Passat with cracked flexibles (both sides) and it blew on the Highway, luckily the handbrake was rather good on that vehicle. It blew one side, and completely lost the brakes.
My 2003 S60 with 100k miles also had both of these hoses cracked. It's not hard to replace but have prepared a piece of eraser cut to fit inside the brake line (leave a little bit outside the line to be able to pull it out when finished). This tip really helps to buy time (to eep the fluid from flowing from the open line which means you'll need to purge all four brakes) when struggling to reconnect the line because it has very thin filets and it's hard to catch. Clean everything around and dry very well before starting the job. No dust inside brake lines.

Negative for advance auto. First the guy I asked said I've never heard of those ...we don't have them. Then I looked myself and they do have them but no 11mm. I guess I'll shop around on the internet tonight. Harbor Freight probably has a set but they are far away....we'll see

HF does not have the 11-mm wrench in their set:

The Sears set has the 11-mm:

Thanks. I also found them online at carquest, Home Depot and lowes. The lowes set doesn't give the sizes. That said none of those locations including the Sears link you provided makes it clear that the tool is available in the store. I was in carquest today and try didn't have my parts but I noticed they bad a very nice display of tools. Originally I was going to pay someone to install the hoses but now I'm thinking og doing it myself since it is going to be a "snow or ice" day in Atlanta. If stores are closed I won't be doing anything since I won't be able to pick up my parts.cn90 wrote:HF does not have the 11-mm wrench in their set:

Honestly, this is one of the easiest repairs to do. I had my 8 year old help me bleed the brakes, it was 20 minutes a side.

Many people in the snow belt area strip the nut, where it is connected to the metal pipe.
The connection at the caliper is easy, virtually never an issue.

I've been working on cars for 35 years. I've bled the brakes many many times and know how to do it. So I am not concerned about it being too difficult. Consider yourself lucky with the helpful 8 year old. I don't have a helpful second set of hands. How do I know? My wife and daughter have helped me before with bleeding the brakes. They try but they aren't at all mechanical and they dont want to do it.Matty Moo wrote:Honestly, this is one of the easiest repairs to do. When I do it myself I use a hand pumped vacuum. It works but I still dont like doing it due to lack of space issues in the garage.
