2002 Volvo XC70 oil leak

Hello all. My wife's 2002 XC 70 has an oil leak on the passenger side which seems to be coming up above the oil filter and behind the drive belt.

Has anyone experienced this an have any direction where the leak could be coming from? I double checked the tightness of the oil filter cover and the oil drain Bolt.

After sitting overnight the spa on the floor is about 3 to 4 inches in diameter.

At higher miles, such as past 100K kms, the PCV canister starts getting clogged. The results are increasing pressure inside the engine crankcase which causes a few seals to start leaking. I'd guess, your car is leaking from the camshaft seals, behind the upper timing belt cover. It needs replacing the pcv canister, cleaning the pcv oil passage inside the oil pan if also clogged, then replacing the camshaft seals and perhaps the timing belt as well if contaminated with oil.

Check the seal (round black rubbery ring) on the oil filler cap also. This seems simple (33 cents from IPD), but once it's old and hard, oil drips out the cap and can run across the cylinder head, then drips down behind the timing belt. When it starts leaking the spot on the garage floor is as you described. The PCV canister is also a good guess. In the later stages of its going bad, sometimes you'll hear a whistling sound coming from the engine, that stops when you loosen the oil filled cap.

Hi all. I found the leak! There is a small pipe running along the frame at the bottom that has a rubber hose connection that was separated. When I am back in under there I will upload photos sure if the hose was from factory or someone broken along the line and added the rubber peace. I'll keep you posted thank you fry your help so

I'm interested in your pictures. I have a small leak that is running down a metal hose looking straight up from the spot I am in changing the oil.

Hi Paul. Sorry for the long delay I was very busy with work and other life things!

I'm pleased to say I found a leak and it was quite obvious. There was a small line next to a frame on the passenger side near the front that had connection of quarter inch hose and it was disconnected I reconnected it and all is great! The car is due for an oil change soon I will send photos for others to see where the leak came from.
