That's pretty clever, sounds like a good idea to me. I haven't seen it tried. You are sort of forced to complete the job once you get to cutting and hacking but that's not going to be a big issue here.
You can definitely tighten in a new one using even an open end wrench, I wouldn't hesitate on that.

True, the downside to that idea is you are definitely committed once you clip the wires. That said, if you have the new parts in hand and they are the correct ones you're financially committed. I'll have to think it over some more...a sawzall blade isn't a precision instrument since its about 6 inches long. There may not be room. Also would want to wear eye protection so that you don't get metal chips in your eyes.erikv11 wrote:That's pretty clever, sounds like a good idea to me. I haven't seen it tried. I've been doing a good deal of work on this car and have been warned about bolts being seized up, but ALL of them have come off easy as can be with a one week PB blaster soak and hand tools. No salt on the roads here (tomorrow may be an exception). I'll probably just buy or borrow the correct tool and use the sawzall only if I need to.

I do the cut the wires too, if the thing is in there really good the crowsfoot one will open up when you put the six foot bar on the breaker bar- last one I did it pulled the bung out of the pipe so I had to weld a new one in- oh yah use a six point socket too

I once had a cheapie "split socket" O2 sensor tool crack near the slot and since then have used the crows foot design.
I use it in conjunction with a handheld MAPP-gas torch to heat up the exhaust pipe around the o2 sensor. I have had a 100% success rate with that combination. The last one I removed was from a Northeast car with 220k on it.

I am also in the South where the roads are not salted. It makes a huge difference. I have always had success just soaking it in penetrant and tightening down a big Crescent wrench on the flats and slowly breaking it loose. Probably the safest bet is to borrow the tool though.
MAF can last a long time. No need to replace if there are no symptoms. They don't just expire and disable the car. Symptoms tend to progress slowly. I'm still on my original in my 850.

Here's how I did mine on my 1998 V70 AWD:

It was a PITA and I had to approach it from the top.
