98 V70 Safety Question Broken strut mount

98 V70 Safety Question Broken strut mount

My 98 V70 has a broken front strut mount and makes noise (and will spin by hand). I will replace this but until it warms up IS IT SAFE to use car. Will the front strut burst thru the hood if a large pot hole is hit? Please advise. Thanks

Maybe if you drop the car from 100 ft the strut will burst though the hood.

This did not burst though the hood.

My opinion, mostly comfort, but strut is part of the suspension. In another word, car might not response as expected when the car is pushed hard.

It's a poor design. I replaced it along with my struts/shocks/springs with ksport coilover with pillowball top mount and no more replacing that rubber mount for me, ever.

I'd also expect uneven tire wear as you're adding a degree of freedom to the wheel.

That's not a busted strut mount, it's a busted spring seat. People drive forever on those (broken ones). You are OK to do it, totally safe. But like you mentioned, a good idea to make a plan to get it fixed.
