Great!! I was a bit worried you wouldn't get the AC to turn on as my 1999 supposedly won't activate the AC under 32F. I wondered if defrost overrides that condition...sounds like it does on the P2 cars.

Yes. I don't remember the controls on my '96 that well, but on the '04 there is a defroster switch to the right of the main heat/cooling controls. When that switch is depressed it turns on the defroster and the a/c. With the main contols there is a switch marked "Auto". Judging from the lights displayed, this also engages the a/c giving heated "air conditioned" air. I have seen this recommended in several owner's manuals, of various makes, the "dry" air aids in defrosting. Well, we have reached 40 degrees on the last three days, looking out the kitchen window I can see the antenna of my '64 convertible sticking up through the snow. Spring can't be far.abscate wrote:Great!! I was a bit worried you wouldn't get the AC to turn on as my 1999 supposedly won't activate the AC under 32F. Another note for those "searching" on loss of accellerator control. When I discovered that the a/c compressor was the culprit, I disconnected the power wire to the compressor clutch. I still continued to blow fuse #8 and lose accelerator pedal, but less often. I am wondering if I didn't tie off the wire propery and had an intermittant short. In any case, all seems well now.
